The Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 514 has announced its intention to strike beginning as early as November 4th if negotiations with its employer - the BC Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) - fail to produce a new deal.
This labor action is the latest in a series that has affected the Port of Vancouver over the past few months, and a disruption of this kind could significantly affect imports and exports through the port.
Experts anticipate that as much as “$800 million a day in trade” is at risk should a new deal fail to be produced.
For more details, please see the BCMEA website.
