Happy National Trucking Week to all our Friends on the Road!

For those who don’t know, this year, National Trucking Week runs from September 3rd to September 9th, 2024. This event is a national recognition of the drivers who put so much of themselves into their work, and we invite you all to join us in celebrating their work and national achievements!

After all, if anyone deserves a week of recognition and respect from our readers, it is our friends behind the wheel, and we hope you’ll join us in taking a moment to give them the flowers they deserve for the remarkable service they provide.

What is National Trucking Week?

As the name might imply, this week was designed to celebrate the truckers that keep Canadian industry rolling. Started by the Canadian Trucking Alliance in 1998, this event has only grown in popularity and enthusiasm in the subsequent years to the point where thousands of individuals and businesses celebrate it across the country.

Whether it’s a barbeque, picnic, truck show, or other raucous event, businesses and individuals from BC to PEI do what they can to highlight and celebrate these road warriors and the incredible work that they do for all of us. It also serves as a crucially important opportunity to highlight truck driving as a career option for aspiring young people looking to enter a new and exciting industry.

Truck drivers are transporting goods across the country 24/7, so a week to show off our appreciation for that critical work just made sense, and even now, a few decades later, we are still coming together and celebrating this important vocation.

There and Back Again - Things to Know About Trucking in Canada

Truck driving is a crucial part of the fabric of Canadian commerce, but exactly how much does it contribute? In the spirit of National Trucking Week, allow us to highlight precisely to what extent trucking drives the Canadian economy forward.

According to the Federal Minister of Transportation, Pablo Rodriguez:

  • There are 1.2 million commercial vehicles on Canadian roads.
  • These vehicles account for nearly one-fifth of Canada’s GDP, or $370 billion.
  • Road transportation accounts for around 42% of Canada’s merchandise trade.

According to the Canadian Trucking Alliance:

  • Over 90% of all consumer products and foodstuffs are shipped by truck (entirely or partially).
  • The demand for services from the trucking industry is on the rise, and a shortage is still in effect across the country.
  • The GDP generated by the for-hire trucking industry alone is three times that of rail, sea, and air combined.

One thing should be abundantly clear: Canadian commerce runs on trucking. After all, and as those in the industry are fond of saying, “If you got it, a truck brought it.”

PCB Supports Our Carriers

First and foremost, PCB wants to extend the fullest extent of our gratitude to the truck drivers who have allowed us to continue to do what we love. You are a valuable part of Canada’s economy, and we see you for the role you continue to play in the everyday lives of Canadians.

We are immeasurably proud to be working alongside our carrier partners. Like many of our services, we saw the challenges carriers were experiencing in the industry and worked to develop a host of services and offerings for trucks and drivers of all shapes and sizes. When it comes to getting across the border, our goal is to offer resources, administrative support, and expertise aimed at making every trucker’s job easier.

We are long-time supporters of not only National Trucking Week but also all of our carriers and transport professionals across the country. For any help or assistance we can offer, including help with bonds, barcode label printing, eManifest filing, storage, or more, please get in touch with our Carrier Services Team today. We are here to help keep the truck drivers of this country rolling.
