The Canadian Government has responded to the US’s issuance of additional tariffs on Canadian made goods being imported.
On Tuesday February 4, 2025, a 25% tariff will be placed on $30 billion dollars worth of US goods, and the remaining $125 billion taking effect in 21 days to allow Canadian businesses and supply chains to seek alternative sources.
The specific list of goods that these tariffs will be applied to has not yet been released. However the Department of Finance reports the first phase of tariffs set to take effect on February 4th will include products such as orange juice, peanut butter, wine, spirits, beer, coffee, appliances, apparel, footwear, motorcycles, cosmetics, and pulp and paper. A detailed list of these goods to be made available in the coming days.
The remaining $125 billion dollars worth of goods potentially subject to the tariffs is slated to be made available for a 21-day public comment period prior to implementation, and will include products such as certain vehicles, steel and aluminum products, certain fruits and vegetables, aerospace products, meats, dairy, and recreational boats. We highly encourage importers of these commodities to participate in this consultation period.
If you anticipate that your goods could be affected by these tariffs, you are encouraged to get in touch with our team at 888.538.1566 or email us at office@pcb.ca.
