The dockworkers at the Port of Montreal are still engaged in protracted labor action that began on October 31, 2024. On Thursday, November 7th, the Maritime Employers Association (MEA) presented the longshore workers union with a ‘final and comprehensive’ offer. If it is rejected, the employer has warned that a lockout will commence at 9 PM on Sunday, November 10th.
The current strike has led to the shutdown of the Viau and Maisonneuve terminals, which account for around 40% of the port’s total container handling capacity. A full lockout would further disrupt the regular flow of goods into Canada.
Disruptions of this kind can cause significant delays for importers, and you are encouraged to seek alternative logistics solutions if your imports are expected at the Port of Montreal in the immediate future.
The original strike notice can be found here, and a statement from the Port of Montreal can be found here.
