Port of Vancouver Lock Out Begins on November 4, 2024

November 4, 2024

Beginning on November 4th, 2024, the BC Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) has initiated a lockout at the Port of Vancouver as the negotiation deadline with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) has passed.

A lockout of this kind will significantly impact all imports and exports into and out of the Port of Vancouver, and importers can expect lengthy delays with no established timeline in place. Importers are encouraged to be patient and plan ahead, as even a short delay of this kind can create a notable container backlog.

A statement from the ILWU can be found here.
