Recently, Air Canada announced plans to suspend most of its operations should labor negotiations between it and the Air Lines Pilots Association (ALPHA) fail to arrive at a new deal by September 15, 2024.
This is a courtesy notice to inform you that should those negotiations break down, either party may issue a 72-hour strike or lockdown notice, meaningfully impacting air transport into and out of Canada.
Please see Air Canada’s News Release for complete details.
A strike or lockout will likely pressure other airlines, which could create delays and complications for imports typically transported by air, particularly perishable or time-sensitive goods.
If you are an importer or exporter who regularly transports goods via air, it is recommended you get in contact with your freight forwarder at your next convenience. A proactive approach is the best way to ensure minimal friction should this labor action come to pass.
